0General Guidelines

  • Please submit during open submission periods.  Do not subject to a project before it is open.

  • Font should be 12 pt. New Courier.

  • The first line in a paragraph should be indented 0.25". Line spacing after every paragraph should be 1.5 lines. This is very easy to do in Microsoft Word.

  • All emails should have the name of the anthology and the submission title in the header.  This ensures that your submission doesn't get lost. Example: Submission: Gods and Monsters: Name of Story. We may be doing more than one anthology and if you want to be considered for the correct anthology make sure you get the name correct.

  • Pay attention to the individual anthology guidelines below. We write them for a good reason. When we list a minimum word count, it is for a good reason. If you are off by less than a hundred words, we'll likely consider it. Otherwise, we will reject it without reading it.

  • Please stick to the subject and intent of the anthology. For example, Into the Dreamlands is a fiction anthology with a minimum of 3000 words. Sending in a 1000 drabble about a dream you had isn't going to win you a lot of fans here.

  • We have a general voting tier in our submission process. Round One is separating the suitable stories from the slush pile. Round Two allows the other editors to review the maybe file and comment. Round Three is selecting the lineup based on flow of the anthology. Until we send you an acceptance letter, your story has not been accepted. We do notify submissions when they been rejected or advanced to the next level. Please don't query for status until at least a month after the submission date.

0Cover Art Guidelines

We need cover art for the following anthologies: Gods and Monsters 1 and 2 and Dastardly Deeds.  Later, we will need covers for our Gemini series.

Submissions should be in the form of a cover mockup so we can see and judge your style.

Note: Copyright watermarks are acceptable, just put them someplace where we can judge the work.

Payment is $50 per cover.

Submissions: Send submissions as attachments to simian_publishing@yahoo.com

0Gemini Novella Series Guidelines

Simian Publishing feels that the novella is almost a lost art.  Novellas are too long for most anthologies and most magazines don't publish them anymore.

The Gemini series will feature two novellas each volume.  Novellas will cover the wide range of horror, fantasy, and science fiction.  Both stories will cover the same topic or theme, but from a unique perspective.  Each story will mirror the other.

This is an open ended series without a set publication schedule.  Why?  Well, odds are that two writers aren't going to submit two novellas on the same theme at the exact same time.  If your novella is accepted, it might be a while before publication until we find the perfect twin.  Once a novella is accepted, we will post the theme here so that we can find that perfect twin that much faster.

Word Count: 20k to 45k

Payment: $50 flat payment for new stories, No Reprints

Submission Format: Please see the general guidelines below.

Submissions: Send submissions as attachments to simian_publishing@yahoo.com

Update:  We have placed our first hold on a novella!  Now we're looking for a second dragon themed novella to pair it with.  If you are submitting a dragon theme, please make sure you mention it in your cover letter.

0Gods and Monsters 2 Guidelines

This anthology is now closed to submissions.

The first volume of Gods and Monsters was the first anthology from Simian Publishing. It started a wild ride. The tagline for it was: Caught up in the bright lights of the modern world, it is easy to pretend that the old myths and legends have lost their hold over our hearts and imaginations. Sometimes, when we least expect it, the old archetypes return in terrifying new forms.

This time we want to surpass ourselves. It is recommended that submitters review the first volume to see what has been done before and to get to know our tastes.

Submissions open February 1st, 2008 and not before. We will close around April 30th 2008 or when we’ve found enough stories. NOTE: DO NOT SUBMIT BEFORE!!!!

Word Count: 3k to 10k

Payment: $25 flat payment for new stories, Reprints $5

Submission Format: Please see the general guidelines below.

Submissions: Send submissions as attachments to simian_publishing@yahoo.com
